|HANNA COWLEY VERBALLY COMMITS|| |
September 28, 2010
Congratulations to Hanna Cowley who has verbally committed to the University of Louisville! The official early decision signing day is in November.
Hanna was considering a number of other schools including: Eastern Michigan, Miami of Ohio, Univ. of Michigan and Purdue, among several others. It was a very hard decision not to stay around Ann Arbor because Coach Richardson (UM) and Coach Linn (EMU) are such great coaches and leaders.
Every school had its strengths and benefits. Hanna found a great swimming program and athletic tradition at the University of Louisville. All the athletic facilities have been recently constructed, including the pool. Coach Arthur Albiero and his staff are well-respected around the country for developing exceptional swimmers and student athletes. Coach Albiero has coached NCAA champions and finalists, and Olympic swimmers representing several different countries. Coach Albiero was an 18 time All-American swimmer at Oakland University, and was a large part of Oakland's three straight NCAA Division II championship teams. Coach Albiero's staff includes Olympic Gold Medalist Rachel Komisarz (a Michigan native); Ryan Wochomurka, a 21-time All-American from Auburn; and Karin Olmsted, who prior to coaching at Louisville was an assistant coach at Kenyon College when they won two consecutive NCAA Division III championships.
Hanna found Louisville to be a vibrant community with a big city feel mixed with friendly Southern hospitality. Louisville has an excellent undergraduate and graduate Geosciences program. Hanna has plans to major in environmental analysis, which studies in part, man's affects on the environment and climate.
Hanna would like to thank all her Pioneer and CW teammates who have made coming to practice and working out a lot of fun...She couldn't have accomplished any of this without the guidance and assistance she received from her high school coaches, Denny and Liz Hill, and the CW staff, including Coach Richardson, Linn, Graham, and most importantly, Coach Bailey Weathers for his mentorship and guidance in and out of the pool.
Hanna said, "I've always had two swimming goals; one was to swim at a big-time Division I program, the other, well that's my secret. Its been a long hard road, and a lot of sacrifice, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Never let go of your dreams, whatever they might be!" That is great advice for all of our age group swimmers.
Remember, you can keep an eye on all former CW swimmers who have gone on to swim in college. Simply go to the 'CW Resources' tab and then click 'CW Alumni' for a list and direct links to their college swimming Web page.
