Training Programs
Club Wolverine training programs are divided into four main practice groups that are based on goals and commitment for the upper level training programs than upon age. In these programs, swimmers are placed with other athletes that share their goals and commitment level, with less emphasis on age. The lower level training programs (State and C-Dub Cubs) combine age, goals and committment for program and group placement. Within each training program, athletes will be placed into subgroups based on a variety of factors including age, competitive experience, training capabilities and event focus. Each training program and subgroup will have its own attendance and competition requirements designed by the coaching staff to suit the athletes in each program.
C-Dub Cubs
The C-Dub Cubs program is the club's developmental program. Practices cater primarily to swimmers who are very new to competitive swimming. These include athletes who are joining a competitive team for the first time and athletes that enjoy swimming as a sport but are unsure about competing in 2-3 day USA Swimming competitions. For the younger swimmers practices will incorporate intrasquad FUN competitions during practice time; these are designed for swimmers and parents to learn how to participate in swim meets without competing outside of CW. There is a strong focus on stroke development and basic aerobic training. New sessions begin every 6 weeks in the fall/winter and every 9 weeks in the spring/summer. Contact us to start in the next session.
State Program
The State Program is aimed at athletes who are comfortable with or planning to move into USA Swimming meets and who enjoy competition. These swimmers generally are not interested in, or not ready to, participate outside of the state of Michigan. Athletes joining this program should have experience swimming with a USA team or with a summer league, middle school or high school team, or have previously participated in the C-Dub Cubs program. This program will also serve as a stepping stone for athletes who would like to go on to train and compete at the next level with the National Program.
National Program
The National Program is designed for experienced athletes who are committed to swimming as their primary sport. This program is designed to maximize training on an individual level based on an athlete’s technical needs, competitive focus and goals, both short term and long term. Swimmers in this program do not need to be competing at the national level to enroll in the National Program, but must be committed to working hard and meeting the training requirements for the program. These requirements include an attendance and competition requirement . Swimmers in this program will train together daily. Subgroup placement within the National Group is at the coaches discretion.
